RSS-TV is an XML-based navigation protocol for Internet Media services based on the RSS standard.

The adoption of RSS-TV enables video device manufacturers to develop applications to navigate Internet media services. Example video devices include set top boxes, game consoles, broadband-connected digital video disc (DVD) players, digital video recorders (DVRs), personal video recorders (PVRs) and next generation mobile phones. By implementing the RSS TV protocol, these devices provide user access to a growing library of online media (video, audio and games) services.

RSS-TV is an extension of RSS and includes additional XML elements and attributes to enable Premium TV-centric features such as:

  • Video On Demand (VOD) and Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD)
  • Navigating media services (video, audio, games) in a hierarchical fashion
  • Capturing user input (such as a user personal identification number (PIN), search query, or email) and automatic search suggestions.
  • Network PVR functionality
  • Secure download of HD content
  • Electronic Program Guide for live streams
  • Automatic language selection
  • Numeric shortcuts for selecting menu items

Readers familiar with digital video broadcasting (DVB) can compare RSS-TV with the DVB Service Information standards developed in the 1990s for digital TV EPGs. The difference is that RSS-TV has been developed for two-way Internet Protocol (IP) networks rather than broadcasting networks. RSS-TV leverages the increasing availability of products that support RSS such as caching engines and RSS-enabled content management and publishing systems.

RSS-TV compliant applications can be implemented using any language and operating system including AJAX/HTML, Flash, OpenTV, or C. Similarly, service providers can use any web service technologies (Java, .NET, PHP) to build RSS-TV compliant services.

Is there a way I can automatically download TV shows with bittorrent?
Q. I watch like ten tv shows and I hate having to download them every single week. Is there a way I can just make an applescript or use RSS or something so they just download automatically on bittorrent when they come out?

A. Yes there is!! It's a program called TED (Torrent Episode Downloader). This program can be used to download almost any tv show. First It displays a list of like 200 tv shows. Then you can click on any show(s) you like and it will start displaying a list of all the episodes for that show. Double-click the episodes you'd like to download and they will appear on your torrent client and start downloading. For easier use, Open your Bitcomet (or whatever your torrent client is) before you start using your TED.

A. you can add the URL to your 360 page by putting it in your message or a list or your blog. It's easier to put it on your MyY! page by going to and scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking on the Add to MyY!. You can also sign up for an alert down there and check out Maria Sansone's personal 360 page...

Why is everyone freaking out about SNL?
Q. So why is everyone freaking out about the SNL skit about David Paterson. SNL has been making fun of Bush and many other people for years, that's just what the show is about. And I'm definitely not saying that it was right to make fun of him like that, because I don't think it is, but why didn't it get all over the news when they made the Bush skits?? What's so different about Paterson? Yes, it is true most, if not all SNL skits are absolutely hilarious but sometimes I do think they take it a little too far.

A. My girlfriend and I rolled while watching the skit. It was absolutely hilarious. Honestly you can't do anything nowadays that doesn't offend someone. I can see how some people would be upset... but it's only because they don't have a sense of humor... What if one of those shoes actually connected and hit Bush... giving him a bloody lip or a black eye? They'd still make fun of it. Paterson has used self-deprecating humor for years, riffing on his own blindness regularly, even on national television. So for SNL to create a skit and for everyone to be offended is well... laughable. To borrow a line from Dark Night: "Why so serious?!"
