Java (Indonesian: Jawa) is an island of Indonesia and the site of its capital city, Jakarta. Once the centre of powerful Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms, Islamic sultanates, and the core of the colonial Dutch East Indies, Java now plays a dominant role in the economic and political life of Indonesia. Home to a population of 130 million in 2006, it is the most populous island in the world, ahead of Honshū, the main island of Japan. Java is also one of the most densely populated regions on Earth.

Formed mostly as the result of volcanic events, Java is the 13th largest island in the world and the fifth largest island in Indonesia. A chain of volcanic mountains forms an east-west spine along the island. It has three main languages, though Javanese is dominant and is the native language of 60 million people in Indonesia, most of whom live on Java. Most residents are bilingual, with Indonesian as their second language. While the majority of Javanese are Muslim, Java has a diverse mixture of religious beliefs and cultures.

Are Vandoren V16 reeds the same as Vandoren Java reeds or what is the difference if any?
Q. I've been playing Vandoren Java reeds, but all of my saxophone friends are playing on Vandoren V16's. Are they the same? Are they different?

A. The JAVA reeds are cut to absorb the vibration and move the vibration over a larger surface of the reed. They are supposedly for commercial playing, as JA stands for Jazz and VA stands for Variety. The V16's have a thicker tip, and help to make the sound more clear. These are American cut, and are supposed to be for jazz players who want a cleaner, more percussive sound. In the last couple years, they have come out with a ZZ... it is a double cut with a higher quality cane from Paris... supposedly they are flexible in genre like the JAVAs, but they last longer and take less to break in. Also, they are supposed to be more "free-blowing" and "brilliant", so they tested really well with jazzers. All of that being said, a lot of the… [cont.]

What is the difference between J2SE and JAVA SE Runtime Environmnet?
Q. Installed on my PC are different JAVA names: J2SE RE 5.0 Update 11, JAVA (TM) 6 Update 7 and the JAVA (TM) SE RE 6 Update 1, i know i need to keep one, and the latest is the Version 6 Update 7. But i get me confuse, should i uninstall the version 5.0 update 11 and version 6 update 1? Will it be ok?

A. The difference between J2SE and JAVA SE is an evolution in versions. J2SE was was the "Java 2 Standard Edition". J2SE can refer to the Standard Edition of Java versions 1.2 through 1.5. When Java 6 was released it was decided to rename the Standard Edition to Java SE. Java applications typically know which Runtime Environment (RE) to use by looking at a system wide variable. This acts as a pointer to the appropriate RE. Some applications can hold references to the Java RE without using the system variables. I would not remove any of them, some applications might break. If you find that you have to remove one, you are correct you can remove the J2SE version (and maybe the Java 6 update 1).
